November 9: Great starter day today. We had 9 racers, mild temps (57 degrees) wind out of the southwest between 8 and 14. Ted Burns was out for the first time and held his own sailing Laura's boat. Laura helped Hans and Lou with committee boat duties. The most significant challenge of the day was finding the wind which was extremely puffy and uneven. If you found the pressure, there was a good chance you would do well. The courses were varied with one "around-the-island", one downwind start, and one out to the gong and finish at the club. Peter won honors with three wins, followed by Chuck (one win), and Tim (one win). Gary Breder and Bob Hicks won the other two.

November 16: It was a blustery overcast day with the wind out of the SW going WSW at 14 with gusts into the high teens. Chuck and Hans manned the RC boat. The current was in strong ebb, which made the distance race up past the club and around the lobster boat challenging indeed. If you tacked too much going up the channel, you were toasted. The racing came to an end in the fifth race when Peter and Paul capsized in a gust as they jibed around the reach mark. Nobody ever remembers Peter capsizing before (even Peter). It was time to quit for the day.

November 23: It was a clear day and Hans and Lou ran the RC boat. The wind was 12 +/- about 5 out of the SW with regular shifts of 30 degrees or more. The temperature was about 32, so it was bearable. Laura was on fire winning three of the seven. The courses were a variety of port and starboard triangles with a couple of Harry Andersons and a trip up the channel. Good racing today and no flipping flipping.

November 29: The weather outside was frightful, but the frostbiting was delightful. We had sleet and cold, but the wind blew. At the start it was light (maybe 8) from the NW and then it shifted to the right to the N at up to 16. The consolation was that the wind was steady, without the shiftiness and puffiness we had seen in recent weeks. Hans and Lou gave us a variety of triangles and windward leeward courses. Chuck won the day with three firsts and three seconds. A number of new racers (for this season) were present among the ten.

December 7: There was a dusting of snow on the boats upon our arrival and the snow squalls continued throughout the afternoon. The wind was 10-14 from the W, but there were lulls and puffs and shifts, which were particularly hard to read. There was a premium placed on boat handling. While there were no flips, Bob had his boat fill up to the gunnels and others took on water regularly. Gordon had an early stretch of three firsts in a row, but Morgan was the most consistent and took first on the day. Hans and Lou gave us a variety of WL and triangle courses and ended with an around-the-island.

January 5: The Hangover Bowl was wiped out due to 25-35 knot winds, but today was the near perfect frostbite day. The forecast of 8-16 was pretty much on target and the wind was out of the WNW. Temps right around freezing. High tide was 1 p.m. and the wind was pushing all the water out of the harbor, so it was pretty much a decision of whether to avoid the strong current or to go with the pressure and shifts. Some of each prevailed. Sometimes going right upwind paid, but sometimes not. Morgan repeated his Worlds prowess with Peter second and Gary (Breder) third.

January 11: It was cold! We got to the Club and had to clear a couple of inches of snow and ice off our boats, but we got out on the water at the usual time with Hans and Lou on the RC boat. The wind was out of the W at 7-15, just about perfect for frostbiting. Despite the 1:45 low tide, the current was running strong out of the harbor until after we finished racing pushed by the wind. With the full moon also helping there were a few rocks exposed that we rarely see. It was always a guess about whether to go left to avoid the current or go right to get better breeze. Right was right more often than left. Peter edged out Morgan by a point for first with Laura third.

January 25: The thermometer said 3 degrees this morning, but by race time it had warmed up to nearly freezing. The wind was from the SSW (and elsewhere), very shifty and gusty, and from 4-12 knots. In other words it was excellent frostbiting weather. Peter and Mike manned the committee boat and managed to avoid the dreaded downwind starts. The first race was thrown out because half the fleet (the front half) went around the wrong weather mark. Morgan, Gordon, and Nelson where 1, 2, 3 and Nelson won his first race of the year (lucky, lucky).

February 1: Twas Super Bowl Sunday and eleven racers plus a bug and a RC member showed up. The wind was pretty steady from the SSW at 8-16 just as the newspaper said. Hans was back from Costa Rica and helped a bit by Lou and Nelson running the RC. A variety of courses saw a variety of winners. It came down to the last race, but Morgan was the most consistent (never worse than fourth), followed by Peter and Gordon. The first five finishers each one one or more races.

February 15: It was a sunny afternoon. The wind was NW 10-15 with a few lulls and a few stronger gusts. It was pretty shifty and the current began to really run by 2. Bob Adams had the Bug out again. And Jim Heagney caught a puff wrong in what would have been the 6th of 7 races canceling the race.

February 22: Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail will keep these courageous sailors from their appointed rounds of the course. Nah, only no wind, excess wind, or excessive cold stops us. There were seven of us out there. Where were the rest of you weanies? The ProJo said 10-20 kts from the ESE. It was almost perfect Dogging weather with the direction pretty constant from ESE as predicted and the wind more in the 8-14 range. Occasional hiking and little chance of flipping. Hans and Mike ran the racing off the WYC dock and we got five races in. Peter was dominant with four straight wins to start. Morgan was not far behind with a win, four deuces and a four. Thanks to Doug for posting results while I was in Mexico.

March 8: Sunny and in the sixties. Nobody can complain about the weather today. The top three finished with 19, 19, and 20 points respectively. You have to go to the scorer's table to find out who they are. Following them was a logjam with two sailors tied at 43. The tie-breaking system was brought out in force. The wind was out of the WNW and the pressure was all over the place. From full out hiking to nearly nothing. We completed seven races with thirteen racers. We even had one racer that came out for the first time this season (no names). Hans and Lou ran the RC boat.

March 15: The wind started SE, but by the end of the racing it was more like SSW (when we went up the channel). The pressure varied from 6 to 12 knots or so. Very little hiking. We started with an "around-the-island" race and by the end the current was rushing out strong. Skip had his way with five straight bullets, but then he lost his focus and finished with a 6-4. He still cleaned up for the day with Gordon second and Peter third. We welcomed back the Commodore & Laura. Bob and Rollie manned the committee boat. Nelson broke his mast in the first race and finished up with Bob's loaner.

March 22: Seven races with thirteen racers on a great frostbiting day. The wind was mostly from S to SW with frequent gusts and shifts. Pressure was 8-16, just like it said in the ProJo. Some hiking and some bailing today. It kept everyone guessing and was very inconsistent. Nobody dominated and the top three had 21, 22, and 22 respectively. Doug Nannig was helped out on the RC by Lou and Rollie. Almost forgot ... in the next to last race, Paul flipped on a downwind death roll (the gust almost got Kyle and Nelson as well), and Ted broke his mast in the last race.

March 28: It was pouring rain this morning, but by 1 p.m. it had become a drizzle. The wind was from the NNE, but without much pressure. At times the wind was not enough to offset the current around the marks. Morgan was out there as RC solo and did a fantastic job of setting courses that were short enough to complete in the paltry wind. Many of us were at the Rules Seminar yesterday at the WYC with Dave Dellenbaugh, and to justify our time we heard the first protest of the WFA in a long time. Most of the racers stuck around to hear some of the finer points of the rules and to learn. On the day it was Gordon, Peter, and Chuck who were the top three.

April 5: Windy today. Again the ProJo nailed it pretty close when they predicted 10-20 from the West. Nelson went in after 3 races, Steve broke a boom, and Doug was seen bailing like a man possessed. The race committee was Chuck, Ted, and Rollie. Chuck taxed the scoring program by pushing it to eight races. Gordon won the day with three firsts. Peter was second with no firsts and Morgan and Skip slipped to 3 and 5, in part because they went around the mark the wrong way in the third race. Gary was 4th. See y'all next year. Bring a friend.
