November 11: We had nine racers on the first day and it was an easy day to start out. Winds were light and variable out of the west. Probably about 4-7 knots for the most part. Gusts were not a problem, but the shifts kept everyone on their toes. The first race took forever because of light air, but the others moved along nicely. Neil brought the beer and Nelson's got beer next week. Hans was RC and ran five races between beers. Doug edged out brother Paul on a tiebreaker and Nelson edged out Bob Hicks because he had to attend the SK-NK soccer championship game. Peter won with three bullets.

November 18: Much like last week only more boats (14). The wind was very light, say 3-7 from the north. Significant shifts at times, but according to Chuck, the secret was to connect the pockets of pressure. You could be sailing within a few boatlengths of another boat and have different wind. I learned that the very worst thing you can do is be on the outside of a pinwheel at a downwind mark. It wasn't even a downwind start, but I was outside boat of three and suddenly the whole fleet passed me by. It wasn't pretty. We got in six races starting with an around-the-island and a healthy variety of courses.

November 25: Just four days after Thanksgiving and we still turned out 14 racers. It was a fabulous frostbiting day with sunny skies and winds out of the SW at 7-10 knots with gusts to low teens. Commodore Chuck helped Hans run the races and he gave us nine races (as is his wont to do). He managed two downwind starts, an up the creek, and an around the gong. Lucky for us it was low tide or he would have tried an around Cornelius (or worse). Tim and Morgan tied for first with 27 points, but Tim won the tiebreaker. Newcomer Skip Whyte would have done better then third were it not for his last in race two. Lots of people missing today, so we should easily surpass 20 in coming weeks.

December 2: It was cold and overcast without much wind. Say 6 knots all the way down to zero at the end of racing. But the RC with Hans and Peter and Jim got off six races and (mercifully) only one downwind start. There was so little wind at the finish of the last race that with the current starting to ebb, the prohibition on sculling was lifted. Chuck won going away followed by Morgan and Gordon. Next week Nelson has RC and Morgan is bringing beer. Today Peter supplied the racers with chili after racing.

December 23: Just two days until Christmas and Santa brought us a great sailing day. The were predicting heavy gusts, but Nelson and Jim set a course to the ESE that was good for the entire afternoon. The windspeed averaged 10-13 knots with some gusts well above that and lulls below. Temps hit 50. But nobody turtled. Chris Nannig gets credit for a flip at the dock. Seven races were run (no downwind starts) and Tim scored a first with 16 points (his sail number). Peter was second and Chuck third.

January 6: Back at it with a light-air day and a new season record of 16 racers (with two more on the RC boat). The wind was 3-6 out of the south and it was warm (in the 50s). You had to find the wind today as there was precious little of it. Chuck did and won two races and the series. Peter was second with two wins and Gordon managed three firsts for third. Next week, Bob Hicks is taking the RC with Hans, followed by Gary Smith.

With Bob and Hans manning the RC boat we had a variety of courses starting with an around-Cornelius-Island to port. Peter won that one and one other and filled in with four deuces and a three for first on the day. Tim was a point behind for second and Pete Smith sailed Morgans boat for third.

February 3: Superbowl Sunday could be described as "light and flukey". The wind was literally all over the place and never blew more than about 6-8 knots with lulls down to 2-3 knots. It started out SE and then went S and SW and W and them back to NE. About the only direction we did not see was NW. So there were lots of lead changes. Doug and Hans manned the committee boat and (mercifully) did not give us a downwind start, but there were a few races where the downwind legs turned into upwind legs. It was a hoot. Peter won the day with Skip second and Gordon third.

March 2: Well I got cold and went home early (flipped) as did two others (TimB and Skip), so it was pretty ugly out there. Congrats to the six who finished all the races. The ProJo said 15-25 from the WNW and they pretty much got it right. Not sure the gusts reached 25, but they sure got over 20 and it rarely was less than 15 except near the shore maybe. So the wind chill was significant. Nobody was dominant in these blustery conditions and five different boats won races. Morgan was most consistent and won the day, with TimD and Peter next. Peter established a great record. In 8 races he never got a worse score than his previous race. The RC, consisting of Hans, Chuck, Jamie, and Bob (who had the best seats in the house) will have some great stories about how the Environmental Police interrupted the racing and cited the RC for multiple violations.
